What is an Architectural Technologist?
An Architectural Technologists is a vital part of a diverse team of professionals (e.g., architects, engineers, tradespersons) that help to ensure that buildings are designed and constructed for the overall health, safety, and comfort of the occupants. More specifically, they are technical problem solvers that create cost and energy efficient structures using a variety of building information modeling software and code compliant procedures. They fill the gap between architectural designers and engineers and are well educated in the fields of building science and computer graphics.
Is Architectural Technology a good career choice for me?
This particular field would be attractive to those interested in the technology associated with architecture and solving the many complex technical problems that arise in building design and construction. An interest in computer graphics and modeling is also essential as well as the development of drawings used to determine how a building is constructed. Students interested in architectural visualization (animation, rendering, illustration) may also be interested in this career path.
Architectural Technology Program at IUPUIThe Architectural Technology Program at IUPUI consists of a two year Associates Degree in Architectural Technology that transitions into a four year Bachelor’s Degree program in Architectural Visualization (see Bachelor's Programs). Students are required to take a variety of courses in architectural technology, interior design, computer graphics technology and construction engineering management technology, for example, to ensure that they are diversified in their knowledge of the building industry.
