Graduate Admissions

Application Checklist for Domestic Graduate Applicants
     (International Graduate Applicants, Click HERE)

The following items are required for your application for admission to a graduate degree program or to a graduate certificate program.  Carefully review the items in the checklist.  Use this Application Checklist to help you gather the necessary supporting materials for your application. 

Application

  1. Complete and submit the IUPUI Online Graduate Admissions Application (See #2 before submitting application).

  2. Additional Information Form: Complete the following form for the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program.  Important! Upload the completed form to the IUPUI online graduate admissions application before final submission of the application.

  3. Graduate application fee of US $60.00. Pay online with a valid credit card.

Academic Documents

  1. One (1) set of official academic transcripts are required from every college/university attended. Photocopies or scanned copies of transcripts are not acceptable. If a transcript is not in English, you must provide an English translation certified by the college or university which issued the transcript. Transcripts and/or English translation must be mailed directly from a registrar's office to our School of Engineering and Technology Graduate Programs Office. You may send the transcript/s to our office yourself, but the transcripts must be in an envelope sealed by the registrar. Transcripts will not be returned.  With prior notice, we also accept electronic transcriptsfrom accredited U.S. colleges and universities sent via eSCRIP-SAFE, Docufide, or PDF Transcript Delivery directly from the accredited U.S. college and/or university registrar to a graduate admissions personnel in the School of Engineering and Technology Graduate Programs Office. We do not accept electronic transcripts forwarded or sent by the applicant. We also do notaccept electronic transcripts from international colleges or universities.

  2. A certified copy of Bachelor's degree diploma awarded, only required if degree conferred is not posted on final transcript.

  3. Three (3) recommendations for graduate admission are required. Individuals writing your recommendations should be your present or former professors or instructors and academic advisors, or managers, supervisors, or project leaders you report to professionally, who are most able to comment on your academic performance, intellectual abilities, scholastic skills and aptitudes, and work ethics, if relevant.  Request recommenders to complete and submit the web-based recommendation form within the online application.  Instructions are provided in the application on how a recommender may complete the online recommendation.  Online recommendations are strongly preferred.  However, if a recommender wishes to complete a paper recommendation, you may send this fillable pdf form. Recommendations for graduate admission from friends, peers, family members or relatives, and acquaintances are notacceptable.

  4. A Statement of Purpose (in the online application): A 400-word essay summarizing your academic objectives and career goals in relation to your educational background, training, and professional experience, if relevant. In addition, and very importantly, describe and highlight your specific area(s) of interest and focus in graduate study and how this might impact your academic and/or professional development.

  5. Graduate admission test:

  • The GRE General Test is required if you are applying for admission to Biomedical Engineering.  Official GRE scores must be reported directly to IUPUI from the testing agency ETS. (IUPUI institution code: 1325.)

English Language Proficiency Assessment

The following is required for foreign-born naturalized U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, and including U.S. citizens who have completed secondary and/or post-secondary education in a non-English speaking country or U.S. territory:

Test scores from IUPUI English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement test or TOEFL: If you are either a foreign-born naturalized U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or a U.S. citizen who have completed secondary and/or post-secondary education (Bachelor's degree) in a country or a U.S. territory/protectorate where English is not the native or first language, you are required to take the IUPUI English for Academic Purposes (EAP) placement test or the TOEFL to apply for graduate admission.

Application Checklist for International Graduate Applicants

The following items are required for your application for admission to a graduate degree program or to a graduate certificate program. Carefully review the items in the checklist.  Use this Application Checklist to help you gather the necessary supporting materials for your application.

Application

  1. Complete and submit the IUPUI Online Graduate Admissions Application (Please see #2 before submitting application).

  2. Additional Information Form: Complete the following form for the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program.  Important! You must upload the completed form to the IUPUI online graduate admissions application before final submission of the online application.

  3. Graduate application fee of US $65.00. Pay online with a valid credit card.

  4. A photocopy of your current visa and/or I-20 documents, if you are currently residing in the U.S.A.

Academic Documents

  1. One (1) set of official academic transcripts in the official language of home country from all colleges/universities attended. Photocopies or scanned copies of transcripts are not acceptable. (Secondary or high school transcripts are not needed; do no include these). 

  2. One (1) set of official English translations of academic transcripts, if the official language of home country is not English.

  3. One (1) copy of official undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree diploma awarded in the official language of home country.

  4. One (1) copy of official English translations of undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree diploma awarded, if the official language of home country is not English.

  5. Official TOEFL score report to be sent from the testing agency (ETS) directly to IUPUI (School Code: 1325). Official IELTS score report is acceptable in lieu of TOEFL.

  6. Official GRE score report to be sent from the testing agency (ETS) directly to IUPUI (School Code: 1325).

  7. Three (3) recommendations for graduate admission are required. Persons writing your recommendations should be your present or former professors/instructors, advisors, project leaders, or managers/supervisors whom you report to professionally. The individuals you have invited to write and submit a recommendation for your graduate admission are expected to comment on your academic performance, intellectual abilities, scholastic skills and aptitudes and work ethics. Recommendations provided by friends, acquaintances, peers, family members or relatives are not acceptable.

    Note: It is strongly preferred that recommenders complete and submit web-based recommendations within the online application. Instructions are provided in the online application on how a recommender may complete and submit an online recommendation. However, If a recommender wishes to complete a paper recommendation, you may send this fillable pdf form.

  8. A Statement of Purpose (in the online application): A 400-word essay summarizing your academic background, professional experience if relevant, and your educational goals and objectives. In addition and very importantly, describe and highlight your specific area(s) of interest and focus in graduate study.

Financial Support Documents

  1. Form "Financial Information for International Students" (printable format) to be completed by you and your sponsor.

  2. Either of the following:
    1. An official letter or statement from a bank verifying that your sponsor has the required funds to pay for at least one year of the total expenses or cost. Submit a current original bank letter or bank statement. Photocopies or fax copies are not acceptable.

    2. Or, if you have been awarded a government or institutional scholarship: Provide an official letter from the sponsoring agency confirming the award and specifying the amount of the award or scholarship.
