Master of Science in Engineering
The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) program is an interdisciplinary engineering program with an emphasis on the basic engineering sciences. It is designed to meet the specific needs of engineers employed in industry. The program has enough flexibility that the student may elect courses in other engineering disciplines or may elect strong options in mechanical engineering. The recommended maximum load for any student who is fully employed is two courses per semester.
Both thesis and nonthesis programs can be arranged. The nonthesis program requires a minimum of 30 credit hours of course work, and the thesis program requires a minimum of 21 credit hours of course work in addition to an acceptable project or thesis.
In either the thesis or a nonthesis program, a plan of study consists of a group of courses in the student's primary area and other courses in a related area or areas. The courses in the primary area should form a coherent group, with all courses showing a close relationship. Courses in the related area or areas are less closely related to the primary area but still contribute to the program. Generally, courses in mathematics will be included in the plan of study.
