Technical Proposal and Grant Writing

TCM 36200 / 3 Cr.

TCM 36200 will focus on techniques for technical proposal and grant writing in academic and professional settings.


By the end of this course, you will be able to

  • · Describe what types of projects are fundable by grants
  • · Describe basic elements of grant proposals
  • · Explain the process of submitting grant proposals to different entities according to their guidelines
  • · Use a variety of grant proposal formatting conventions to draft and submit proposals appropriately for the specific funding agency
  • · Practice writing clear needs statements, goals, objectives, research methods, timelines, budgets, and narratives 
  • · Design a fundable project including SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound) objectives and modifying the objectives as needed
  • · Demonstrate professional, technical, persuasive, and clear writing skills 
  • · Demonstrate analytical reasoning skills in relationship to developing a successful project proposal
  • · Use appropriate editing and proofreading skills 
  • · Search for and locate available grant opportunities for a specific project
  • · Use skills in drafting, editing, and submitting at least one grant application for a specific project
