International Leadership Certificate


This interdisciplinary certificate is designed to provide the knowledge, skills, abilities, perceptions, and experiential learning opportunities appropriate for any student interested in supervising or leading individuals from different countries or preparing for international work assignments. Students who complete the International Leadership Certificate will develop the tools necessary to understand the broad-based concepts associated with leadership in a variety of individual, organizational, and community settings in an ever changing, pluralistic, global society.

Requirements (18.0 total credit hours)

Core Requirements (I): 12.0 credit hours

  • OLS 25200 Human Behavior in Organizations
  • OLS 32700 Leadership for a Global Workforce (P: OLS 25200; ENG W131)
  • OLS 32800 Principles of International Management (P or co-requisite: OLS 32700)
  • OLS 45400 Gender and Diversity in Management or COMM-C 482 Intercultural Communication
International Experience & Foreign Language Requirement (II): Select 6.0 credit hours total from the options below (3.0 credit hours must be a foreign language)
  • 3.0 – 6.0 credit hours of Internship Credit (OLS-I 39900 in an international/bi-lingual setting or equivalent IUPUI or IU-approved overseas internship)
  • 3.0 – 6.0 credit hours of IUPUI or IU-approved study-abroad or International-based Service Learning Experience (OLS 42300 Go Green or other approved course with OVST component)
  • 3.0 – 6.0 credit hours of a single foreign language (excludes ASL or ENG coursework)


English W131 and Communication R110 are strongly recommended. Candidates for this certificate are required to be formally admitted by the IUPUI Office of Admissions, but are not required to be a student in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. Credit (up to 6.0 credit hours) will be given for applicable courses taken at other colleges and universities. Credits earned while completing this certificate may be subsequently applied toward electives or core requirements for the B.S. degree in Organizational Leadership (OLS). Please notify OLS if you are interested in earning this certificate – students must meet with an advisor to complete the required paperwork or declare their intent to pursue the certificate after completion of OLS 32700.


Students are required to successfully complete the following courses in order to earn the Certificate in International Leadership (LDRSPCRT) with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Students must earn a grade of C (2.0) or higher in all OLS course requirements.
