Registration Open for IUPUI’s Engineering and IT Summer Camps
March 14, 2014
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) announced today that registration is open for two summer camps offered through the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. Applications are being accepted for POWER Camp and WinIT Camp – week-long residential camps for high school females.
The eighth annual Preparing Outstanding Women for Engineering Roles (POWER) Summer Camp, July 13-19, is designed for young women interested in learning more about what engineers do and determining whether it might be a career path for them. This Sunday-through-Saturday camp gives students the opportunity to explore engineering through hands-on, learn-by-doing experiences.
Campers will have opportunities to meet a diverse group of professional women engineers and young college women aspiring to be engineers. They will conduct experiments, innovate, make cool stuff, take things apart and then put them back together again. Time also is built in for campers to check out up-and-coming technology in engineering through innovation modules.
Evening activities include a scavenger hunt on campus, a Recycle Fashion Show, game show night, an International Culture, Dinner and Meet & Greet, a salsa lesson and a talent show.
The Women in Technology (WinIT) Camp, July 13-19, is designed for high school females interested in a technology career. With two of the top five jobs of the future in Indiana focused on IT, it’s a career worth exploring!
Campers learn about current technologies, and meet with female IT professionals and college women who are working toward a career in technology. Fun workshops include: web design with WordPress, digital forensics, developing mobile applications, and configuring and securing your computer.
Camp activities also include a scavenger hunt on campus, a cook-out, an etiquette luncheon, a spa night and a Recycle Fashion Show.
Applications and payment must be received by June 27 to secure a spot in either camp.
