IUPUI Motorsports Students Finish Finals Week at the Race Track
December 21, 2015
Pierce, a Motorsports Engineering freshman from Texas, has driven midgets for several years, and hooked up with Bryan Clauson Racing this autumn to run events in Indiana after joining IUPUI. The high point of his year was an outstanding fifth place finish in the Jason Leffler Memorial event this fall, against some of the top midget racers in the country. That earned him an invitation to the prestigious Indy Invitational race inside the Bankers life stadium in December. He followed that up by running the DuQuoin event to finish off his year.
Parker, an Mechanical Engineering Technology junior from central Indiana, who is pursuing the Motorsports Certificate, has been running in the mini-sprint class at tracks throughout Indiana and Kentucky for several years, as well as representing IUPUI in the Purdue Grand Prix. DuQuoin was his first ever drive in a midget, racing for Zero Motorsports. He found the 1/8 mile dirt oval constructed inside the convention center to be quite a different challenge from the outdoor tracks of southern Indiana. photo (left): Colin Parker and his midget racecar
Unfortunately, neither student managed to qualify for the 20 car feature against the strong field of over 60 cars. However, both acquitted themselves well and capped of a busy Finals Week in a most unusual fashion.
