The Society for Technical Communication (http://www.stc.org/) defines technical communication as any form of communication that has one or more of these characteristics:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics adds that “Many technical writers work with people located around the world and with specialists in highly technical fields, such as science and engineering. As a result, they must be able to assimilate complex information quickly and be comfortable working with people from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds” (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos319.htm).

The B.S. degree in Technical Communication requires 120 credit hours. All courses that count toward the major must be completed with a grade of C or better.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
The employment outlook is excellent if you decide technical communication is the direction you want to take. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos319.htm), “Employment of technical writers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations as the need to explain a growing number of electronic and scientific products increases. Job prospects are expected to be good for those with solid writing and communications skills and a technical background.”
