Technical Communication Writing Center

The Technical Communication Writing Center is a free student service provided by the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology.

TCM Writing Center tutors can help you plan, organize, and revise your documents or presentations to address audience, purpose, and context more effectively. They are especially prepared to help students with assignments from Engineering and Technology faculty, but can assist with other writing and speaking tasks as well. During your session, you and your tutor will identify a few key areas that could be improved. You can always return for a follow-up session if you have more questions than the tutor can help with in one session. You will need to be actively engaged with the tutor. Tutors are not here to fix your papers. They will help you become a better writer.

Come in early while your document or presentation is still in the idea stage. Tutors can help you understand the assignment, brainstorm ideas, and clarify them.

Come in later when you have a draft. Tutors can respond as a reader, helping you identify potential problems for readers and suggesting ways to improve your document.

The Technical Communication Writing Center is a free student service provided by the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. The Center gives you the opportunity to sit with an experienced 'reviewer' who can assist you with improving your writing and speaking. Reviewers can help you plan, organize, and revise your documents or oral presentations to address audience, purpose, and context more effectively.

Mondays: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays: 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Thursdays: 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

The TCM Writing Center is located in ET 232.

Policies

Appointments include 25 minutes of one-on-one tutor time and 5 minutes of administrative time.
You can make one appointment per day and three per week.
Bring the assignment instructions with your paper. Electronic versions are fine.
Turn off your cell phone and put it away during your appointment.
Tutors will not edit your paper. They will work with you to become a better writer/speaker.
Tutors will send a note to your professor upon request. You must provide the professor's email address.
Drop-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis if the tutor on duty is available.
If you are ten minutes late, your appointment will be canceled and you'll need to reschedule.
If you miss three scheduled appointments during the semester, you will not be able to schedule additional appointments during that semester.
ESL students and AES students can request a 1-hour appointment (again, expect up to 5 minutes of administrative paperwork)
